How I Quadrupled my Revenue in the Middle of the Pandemic
It’s true. I quadrupled my revenue in the middle of the pandemic.
But first, let’s rewind 6 weeks ago.
When the Bay Area announced the Shelter in Place order, I got worried. (But you didn’t know that because I played it reeeeeal cool ;)
I had planned to launch my signature coaching program, Personal Brand Accelerator, at the start of Q2, but never imagined--in my wildest dreams--that this was all going to happen.
A few questions started to circle around in mind when I realized things were getting more serious by the hour.
Should I play it safe and postpone the launch of PBA til Q3? After all, I want to be sensitive to the current environment.
Or, should I say ‘f--- it’ and keep going? Why should I let the Coronavirus stop me?
Ultimately, I chose the latter. I knew that PBA was a tool that could help others MAKE money during the Pandemic. Thus, not releasing the program would be a disservice to myself and others. At least that’s how I chose to look at it.
Although, as I reflect on what went RIGHT, a few things remain clear.
What ensured my business’s security and longevity during this season has more to do with my actions over the last year, then it does by the few weeks leading up to the launch of Personal Brand Accelerator.
Here’s how I quadrupled my revenue in the middle of the pandemic:
I sharpened my copywriting skills and doubled down on content creation.
You don’t realize how important writing is until it becomes the cornerstone of your marketing efforts. Everything you want to accomplish involves writing.
Do you want to get high engagement on an Instagram post? You need good writing skills.
Do you want to get someone to do something for you? You need good writing skills.
Do you want to write an effective sales page that converts users into buying customers? You need good writing skills.
While there may be many forms of content creation, written word will always be KING - IMHO (In my humble opinion). You can film a great video for YouTube, but how will anyone know about it if you don’t tell them through the written word?
How to Do This For Yourself:
Integrate a writing habit into your daily routine. Spend at least 30 minutes every day writing something for your business or personal brand. Don’t focus on writing something “perfect.” There is no perfect. Focus on writing consistently. Don’t skip days. Approach your writing practice as you would approach something like yoga or meditation. You don’t have to do it perfectly, you just have to do it. This blog post will give you tips on how you can become a better writer.
Remember, good writing takes you where you want to go. If you want to get trained by a team of professionals that can help you become a sensational copywriter online, I highly recommend checking out my signature program, PBA. I teach all of my students how to do all of this and more.
I played the long game, and cultivated a “can’t-lose” kind of attitude.
It’s true--I’ve been at this a while. It took many months before I saw the slightest sliver of success. I started with 0 email subscribers, Instagram followers, and clients--just like any other entrepreneur (except maybe Kylie Jenner).
When I first got started, I didn’t set any monetary goals for myself. (Maybe some people would choose to do things differently, but this is more my style and what worked for me). I told myself, “I’m just going to run with this, and see what happens.” I followed what I believe to be a higher calling, and worked diligently toward fulfillment of that purpose—and everything started falling into place. The reason? I was being authentic in my pursuit of success, happiness, and fulfillment. I was spot-on; in total alignment--and people could feel it.
This is what happens when you come from a place of empathy and service. When you’re in total alignment with your ultimate purpose in life. You want to SERVE others, instead of withdrawing from them.
How to do this for yourself:
Visualize a successful future for yourself. Constantly. Every morning and every night. Although remember not to get caught up in how to solve your future’s problems. Do your best to stay here, in the now, and focus on the obstacles that are right in front of you. Stay in your own lane and I don’t look at what anyone else is doing. This is not to say you shouldn’t study your competitors or seek to learn from the best in your field. Please do. However, but don’t get caught up in HOW they are executing - just execute in the way that feels right to you.
Remember, there is no other option but to succeed. There is no other way of life than this life. You have to become RADICAL about what you’re doing. You have to be SO sold on your own product and service that it’s almost impossible for your clients, prospects, and competitors not to be as well. This kind of feeling is obsessive and contagious--and it will take you to the very top.
I built a brand before I built a business.
Part of the reason I found success so early in my career is that I *didn’t* set any monetary goals for myself. I focused on BUILDING MY BRAND first, a step that most people neglect and bypass when they’re financially starving and coming from a place of lack or need. My main goal wasn’t sales, my main goal was brand awareness and engagement. And guess what? The sales came rolling in. The best part: people were coming to me, instead of the other way around.
How to do this for yourself:
Always build your brand first. When you do this, you will actually be able to gauge what your audience WANTS before you craft an offer (an offer you have no idea if the market is even hungry for.) So, before you focus on selling, speak up, and start a conversation about your area of expertise with your audience.
Pay attention to what they are motivated by.
Listen to their fears and desires.
Ask them what they want.
Always build your brand considerately. Remember, It’s all personal. People aren’t motivated by fear, they’re motivated by a desire to succeed, belong, and be affirmed. If your product or service fulfills those desires and takes their needs into consideration... ooh baby, you’ve got it. (And if it doesn’t...don’t worry about it! You WILL attract those who are drawn to the BRAND you have built and you WILL be able to meet their needs. Just give it a little more time and consideration.)
