How to Grow On Social Media Without Posting Everyday
My students in PBA are spending the month of April refining their content — honing their message, sharpening their creation skills, and expanding how they want to show up online.
It comes at a good time. For them, and for me.
We’ve all been hitting the gas pretty hard lately. Posting daily, or multiple times a week. I tell them often that consistency is a prerequisite for doing this work well. It’s step zero. But once you’ve proven you can be consistent, then what?
That’s the question we’re sitting with this month. Not how to post more. But how to make what you do post… better.
What does refinement look like?
In my experience, it comes down to two core things:
Honing your message
Being intentional with how you package your content
Let’s break it down.
1. Honing Your Message
You’ve proven you can be consistent. So, the next question is: Are you saying what you actually want to say?
Sometimes, we get so caught up in performance — in doing it “right” — that we lose sight of why we started this work in the first place.
Here’s what helps me get back to the heart of it:
What is the actual experience I want to speak about?
What’s the tension or truth I’ve been avoiding saying out loud?
If I could say one honest thing today — without trying to impress or preform — what would it be?
Going deeper doesn’t always mean getting more vulnerable. Sometimes it means going beyond the obvious. It means mining your actual experiences and expertise for insights that stick — not just grabbing for the first thought that comes to mind. It takes less impulse. More intention.
Here’s an example of how this can play out:
Instead of:
“Here’s how to post more consistently on social media…”
Try:
“Here’s what finally made me stop disappearing.”
“Here’s why consistency used to terrify me—and how I worked through it.”
“Here’s the cost of not showing up—and what it took for me to care enough to change.”
One gives generic advice. The other offers an honest perspective — something only you could say.
2. Packaging Your Content: Music, Hooks, and Footage
Sometimes, it’s not what you’re saying — it’s how you’re saying it. The format, the energy, the delivery — it all plays a role in how your content lands. Let’s break it down into three parts:
How to Choose the Right Music for Instagram Reels and TikTok
Music isn’t background noise — it sets the tone. The right song can turn an okay video into one that feels cinematic and intentional.
Ask yourself:
Does the song support the mood I’m trying to evoke?
Have I taken the time to find a sound that complements my message?
I always know I’m on the right track when the song gives me that full-body yes. When it feels like the message. That’s when I know it’s the one.
Random doesn’t cut it. Not when you’re trying to create work that resonates.
How to Write Better Hooks for Social Media
Good hooks aren’t about being shocking or dramatic. They’re about being specific and emotionally true. You don’t need to manufacture drama — you just need to articulate the truth in a way that makes people feel seen.
Examples:
Instead of: “How to get over imposter syndrome,” try → “What finally convinced me I was qualified — even when I didn’t feel like it.”
Instead of: “My daily routine,” try → “What I do every morning to feel like myself again.”
And sometimes, that means not going with the first idea that comes to mind. Try writing out three to five variations. Then walk away. Come back with fresh eyes and ask yourself: Which one actually makes me feel something? That’s usually the one.
How to Film Better Content
Footage matters more than we realize. Are you capturing your content with care? Could you take two extra minutes to:
Try a better angle?
Adjust the lighting?
Reframe the shot to feel more intentional?
I started asking myself: If this clip were in a short film, would it make the final cut? If not — I take another one. It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. About taking pride in the visuals you’re using to carry your story.
So, what’s the takeaway?
Refining your content doesn’t mean you have to post every day. In fact — it might mean posting less.
Give yourself permission to go slower. To say one true thing instead of five forgettable ones. To capture something beautiful instead of rushing through a checklist.
What happens when you spend more time on one piece of content?
Does it land more powerfully?
Does it pay off?
Well, only time will tell. Try it, and let me know what you find.
