Maybe You Shouldn’t Create Content
Maybe you shouldn’t create content.
If it’s that frustrating, maybe you should stop.
Is it worth the headache?
The anxiety?
The incessant worrying?
Maybe it’s not.
Here’s how to know for certain.

I’ve always been an advocate for content creation.
Here’s why:
Want to publish a book? You need an audience.
Want to leave your job and start a consulting business? You need need audience.
Want to book your first TedX talk? You need an audience.
What to scale your business? You need an audience.
Want to make a better income? You need an audience.
How do you build an audience?
Create fantastic, high-quality content that’s authentic to you.
Simple in theory, harder in practice.
The truth is, most people just aren’t ready to be content creators.
Don’t Be a Content Creator if You Aren't Willing to Bomb
Would you keep going if you posted 365 videos in a row and still only had 75 followers? This is the story of thousands of creators who, after years of relentless, persistent posting, eventually became viral sensations. Your story isn't special. This is what it takes. Not months, but years.
Stop complaining
Be patient
Keep posting
Don’t Be a Content Creator if You Aren't Willing to Re-Invent Yourself
What worked for you once, may not ever work again. So, if you’ve been posting the same content for a while and still aren’t seeing progress, something isn’t working. (HINT: It’s not the algorithm, it’s your content.)
Don't get attached to familiar ways of creating
Abandon what's not working
Double down on what is working
Don’t Be a Content Creator if You Don’t Know What You Want (Or Why)
If you want a big audience—you need to know why. And more importantly, you need to know yourself.
Do not attempt to do this work without:
knowing your values
clarifying your message
identifying what your platform stands for
I’ve seen too many people get swallowed by the pressure, backlash, and criticism because they did not take the time to be intentional with this step.
This is exactly why we have an entire week dedicated to this in PBA.
Note: If you're still trying to discover your "why," this doesn't mean you should stop creating content. In fact, I would suggest using this period to use social media as a creative outlet and experiment, rather than a reliable way to build an audience or generate revenue. The key here is to manage your expectations.
Personal Branding Tip
My advice is simple: If you want to build an audience, create content.
Don’t stop.
Most will.
You won’t.
You won’t, because you have something important to say and more people need to hear it. It's time.
I believe in you.
If you’re reading this, I believe in you.
Do you believe in you?
Personal Question
Are you willing to bomb? Are you willing to re-invent yourself? Do you know why you’re doing this? If the answer is no, then maybe you should do something else instead.
See you next week.
