Why You're Doing Better Than You Think When it Comes to Posting on Social Media
Maybe you’ve experienced this before.
You grab your phone to record something, capture the footage you need, spend a long time editing the video, and then halfway through the editing process, you realize that it’s not as good as you hoped.
You might worry that your voice sounds annoying, that you rambled on without making a clear point, or that the video lacks clarity overall.
This uncertainty makes you unsure of whether you should actually post the video or just forget about it.
There’s nothing more discouraging than when our work doesn’t meet our expectations.
For those of you who have been creating content, posting videos, and sharing your knowledge for a while now, you know how thankless and discouraging this process can feel.
Sometimes, it may feel like nobody is listening or paying attention to you. It may seem like you’re not gaining any new followers and that nobody really cares about what you have to say. You might even consider giving up and quitting.
I urge you not to stop, and instead, hear me out. Consider these three reasons that suggest you are doing better than you think.
There will Always be "Silent Benefactors"
"Silent Benefactors" are the people who view your posts, may even like them, and find value in them, but never comment. You may have many fans who appreciate your content, but they choose not to express it openly.
Keep this in mind the next time you share a video and it doesn’t receive as much engagement as you expected. People are always watching. Even if the numbers are small, your content is still being seen. Those numbers represent attention.
It also takes A LOT for someone to comment or take action on our posts. As creators, this is ultimately a goal we strive to achieve. We aim to create content that motivates people to take action. It’s alright to simultaneously work on improving our skills as creators and be content with knowing that even a small audience is paying attention.
You’re Making a Greater Impact than You Think
Just the other day, I felt disappointed about a post I created for TikTok because it received hardly any engagement. Later that afternoon, during a phone call with my friend Crystal, she unexpectedly told me, “I love that post you made on TikTok. It actually inspired me to reach out to her.”
A big smile spread across my face. It had worked! Despite the metrics, it had positively affected one person. And that was enough for me to know that it was worth it to make the post.
It’s easy to believe that our words and ideas go unnoticed or have little effect. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Every piece of content we create has the potential to significantly impact someone’s life or perspective. Whether it’s a blog post, a TikTok video, or even a casual conversation, our words have the power to inspire, educate, and influence others. So, never underestimate the impact you’re making, because even the smallest actions can have a profound effect.
The Best Solution is Usually Just to Keep Going
When we have been posting consistently without seeing any results, it is tempting to quit and try something completely different. Perhaps you want to change your content strategy or take a new direction. Sometimes, this is necessary.
But most of the time, it may actually be more beneficial to stay where you are, continue posting, and stay the course. Joining a program like PBA can also help you determine whether you should continue honing the same strategy or switch things up and start posting a new style of content.
Personal Branding Tip
No matter what, you’re doing better than you think. Be patient with yourself, and patient with the process. Stay the course and don’t give up. You’re making an impact. Don’t forget it!
